Miami, FL – The Florida Marlins have agreed to terms with round draft pick, pitcher Jose Fernandez.
Fernandez, 18, was the 14th overall selection. This spring, the righty went 13-1 with a 1.35 ERA in 16 starts in his third season at Alonso High School in Tampa. He notched 134 strikeouts and 21 walks in 93 innings while leading the Ravens to their second 6A state baseball championship in three years.
He marks the second Florida high school prospect selected by the Marlins with their first pick in the draft, joining pitcher Chris Volstad in 2005.
Fernandez was born in Cuba and came to the United States at the age of 15.
