New York, NY – Seattle Mariners southpaw Jason Vargas was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for July.
Vargas posted a 5-0 record with a 1.64 earned run average over six starts. He limited opponents to just a .206 batting average in 44 innings pitched.
Other hurlers receiving votes included Vargas' teammate Felix Hernandez, Tampa Bay's David Price, Texas' Scott Feldman and the Angels' Jered Weaver.
