Mainz posted its third straight shutout in a 0-0 tie with Wolfsburg on Friday as it all but sealed its Bundesliga survival.

Mainz finished fifth last season, but struggled to replicate that feat and sits 11th ahead of the weekend action. Despite having just nine wins this season, it has moved nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Cologne, which is 16th, could still mathematically catch Mainz with three wins, if Mainz also losses its final two matches. But Mainz could have safety secured Saturday, if Cologne fails to defeat fifth-place Stuttgart.

Mainz has been in decent form of late, losing just one of its last five to move close to safety. All four positive results have been shutouts, with a defeat to Stuttgart the only setback. Mainz held Bayern to a 0-0 draw last week.

Wolfsburg snapped a three-game losing streak, but is still winless in four. The Wolves are 10th and still have an outside shot at a Europa League berth.
