GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) The Cleveland Indians have signed veteran infielder Juan Uribe to a one-year contract.
Uribe will likely be the team's starting third baseman, replacing second-year infielder Giovanny Urshela, who started 76 games for Cleveland in his rookie season.
The Indians announced the signing Sunday.
Uribe ended last season with the New York Mets, and had an RBI single in his only World Series at bat.
The 36-year-old third baseman agreed to the deal with Cleveland more than a week ago, but had to resolve visa issues to would allow him to travel to the United States from his home in the Dominican Republic.
Uribe arrived to the Indians' spring training complex on Saturday, underwent a physical and finalized the deal.
Over his 15-year career, Uribe has a .256 batting average with 192 home runs with the Dodgers, Braves, Mets, Rockies, White Sox and Giants.
