The Houston Astros signed catcher Humberto year, $1 million contract on Monday, thereby avoiding arbitration.

Over his nine seasons in the majors, his first two with San Diego and last seven with Houston, he is a career .234 hitter with 15 home runs and 94 RBI.

Also on Monday, the team announced that catcher John Castro underwent surgery on his left foot and will be sidelined for approximately three months.
