Authorities have arrested former UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz, and he is under investigation for driving under the influence after he hit a freeway median in Los Angeles.

The California Highway Patrol says the 38-year-old Ortiz lost control of his vehicle about 3:50 a.m. Monday on Interstate 405 as he was driving his 2012 Porsche Panamera. The sports car hit a concrete center median and sustained moderate damage.

Ortiz had two passengers in his car but no one was injured.

CHP says it has determined Ortiz was under the influence of alcohol, and he was placed under arrest.

A message left for Ortiz's attorney, Ofir Ventura, was not immediately returned.

Ortiz was an early star of mixed martial arts, holding the UFC light heavyweight crown from April 2000 until September 2003.

In 2006, he began dating former adult film actress Jenna Jameson, and she gave birth to twin sons three years later. In April 2010, however, Ortiz was arrested on charges of felony domestic charges, which Jameson eventually recanted. (The police investigation remains unresolved.)

In July 2012, Ortiz lost to Forrest Griffin and was inducted to the UFC Hall of Fame, after which he retired from the octagon.

A year later, he agreed to fight his former training partner Quinton Jackson, but a neck injury forced him to pull out of the match.
