Olympic Stadium, originally opened in 1923, was renovated and reopened in October 2011 in preparation for Euro 2012, and will host the final of the tournament on July 1.
The original stadium, which had no seats, had a record attendance of 102,000 in 1977 for a Dynamo Kyiv vs. Bayern Munich match, but seats 60,000 for UEFA sanctioned events. The stadium was upgraded a number of times, but the latest upgrades include new seating, a transparent roof, press box, and VIP areas.
The venue has had many names during its life, and adopted its current status as Olympic Stadium in 1980, when it hosted seven games during the 1980 Moscow Olympics. The first international match at the renovated venue was between Ukraine and Germany, and finished 3-3 in front of 70,000.
The stadium will host five games in all, including Ukraine's opener on June 11 against Sweden, which will play all three group matches at the venue. England and France play one match apiece. There will also be a quarterfinal in Kyiv.
