The architect of the first Toronto Blue Jays team to reach the postseason since 1993 reportedly will join the Los Angeles Dodgers' front office.
Alex Anthopoulos surprisingly turned down an extension from the Blue Jays when his deal expired after the 2015 postseason -- soon after the franchise hired longtime Cleveland Indians executive Mark Shapiro to serve as its president and CEO.
Anthopoulos had served as the Blue Jays' general manager since late in the 2009 season.
In 2015, Toronto won the AL East to reach the playoffs for the first time since winning back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993, before being eliminated in the ALCS by the Kansas City Royals. Anthopoulos orchestrated the key acquisitions of left-hander David Price and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki before the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline, and he added AL MVP Josh Donaldson before the start of the 2015 season.
In Los Angeles, Anthopoulos would work with President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman (formerly the GM of the Tampa Bay Rays) and GM Farhan Zaidi.
