NEW YORK (AP) Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is pitching a perfect game through six innings against the New York Mets.

Kershaw had struck out eight Thursday night. He got Eric Campbell swinging to start the fifth inning and the ball got away from catcher Yasmani Grandal, who got to it quickly and made an off-balance throw to nip the runner at first.

Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young Award winner and the reigning NL MVP, has thrown 47 of 62 pitches for strikes.

The Dodgers lead 1-0.

The Mets were no-hit earlier this season at home by Giants rookie Chris Heston.

Kershaw pitched his only career no-hitter last season at home against the Colorado Rockies.
