In his past three starts, Seattle Mariners right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma has been great. His latest start, in which he tossed seven innings of six-hit, two-run baseball against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday was his third consecutive strong outing since coming back from a strained lat that has sidelined him for much of 2015.
According to MLB.com's Greg Johns, Iwakuma's strong showing in Detroit came in front of 'plenty of scouts' paying close attention to him, indicating that there are clubs interested in his services.
With Seattle entering play Friday 44-52 and in danger of completely falling out of the postseason picture (if they haven't already), Iwakuma told Johns through his interpreter that he isn't concerned with distractions - he's only focusing on on the present: "I don't worry about the future. I just have to take care of one game at a time. I missed a lot of baseball the first half -- two and a half months. I have to make up for that and contribute to the team. That's all I have in mind."
Whether he has it in mind or not, there at least seems to be a possibility he finds himself on a new club by the time July 31 rolls around.
