Manchester, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Manchester City will return to Premier League action on Saturday with a potentially tricky fixture against Tottenham at the Etihad.
City enters the weekend in second place in the English top flight, just three points ahead of sixth-place Tottenham.
The close proximity of the two clubs in the table indicates that Saturday's clash should be closely contested, but recent history suggests otherwise.
Spurs was on the receiving end of two heavy defeats to City last term, specifically losing 6-0 in the corresponding fixture last term.
But after guiding his side to an impressive 1-0 defeat of Southampton last time out, new Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has urged his side to put the memories of such sizable defeats to City in the rearview.
"The reality is I don't remember the results," said Pochettino. "It's important to know that this is another season, another philosophy, another game. I think it's history. We need to arrive on Saturday with the idea that we believe in our philosophy and our style and get the points, that's the most important thing. The past is the past and it's important to look forward.
"The most important thing is we arrive in a good moment and, after our victory against Southampton, we need to keep the momentum and reproduce the same action during the game against Southampton and try to get the three points."
City remains in pursuit of first-place Chelsea but holds the distinction of being the only club to take points off the Blues in league play this term. The two sides played to a 1-1 draw earlier this season, but Chelsea will hope to make it seven wins from eight matches when it travels to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Arsenal has drawn four of its seven matches thus far, leaving the club in eighth place in the top flight. The Gunners will hope to get back in the win column on Saturday when they welcome Hull City to the Emirates.
A remarkable start to the campaign has helped Southampton rise to third place in the table despite losing a host of players from last season's squad. The Saints stumbled against Tottenham last time out, but they will look to right the ship on Saturday when they host Sunderland.
Also on Saturday, Newcastle will face Leicester City at St. James' Park, Everton will take on Aston Villa at Goodison Park and West Ham United will travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley.
Liverpool snapped a three-game winless run last time out by getting a narrow victory over West Bromwich Albion. Now the Reds will get to travel to Loftus Road to face a QPR side that sits at the foot of the table.
Stoke City, meanwhile, will attempt to close the gap on fifth-place Swansea City by getting a win over the Welsh club when the two sides meet at the Britannia on Sunday.
Monday's lone contest will pit Manchester United up against West Brom. United has quietly climbed to fourth place in the table with 11 points through seven games, and the Red Devils will hope to make it three straight wins with maximum points at the Hawthorns.
