Moscow, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic and sixth-seeded Tommy Robredo notched wins Wednesday at the Kremlin Cup tennis event.
The second-seeded Croatian star Cilic held off Russian wild card Evgeny Donskoy 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals on the indoor surface at Olympic Stadium.
The former top-10 star from Spain, Robredo, topped Serbian qualifier Pedja Krstin 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
Fifth-seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut got past big-hitting Aussie Sam Groth 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) and eighth-seeded Italian and 2012 champion Andreas Seppi bested Croat Ivan Dodig 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) in some other second-round action.
Another opening-round result saw seventh-seeded Russian favorite and 2009 titlist Mikhail Youzhny maul qualifier and fellow countryman Victor Baluda 6-3, 6-4.
On Thursday, top seed Milos Raonic of Canada will take on Lithuanian qualifier Ricardas Berankis in the round of 16.
This week's winner will claim $140,750.
