The San Diego Chargers placed linebacker injured list with a biceps injury and signed veteran linebacker Gerald Hayes on Tuesday.

Cooper tried to tough it out, playing in five games on both special teams and defense despite the tear. Finally, it was determined that surgery was the only option for a full recovery.

The nine-year veteran had his best seasons from 2007-2009, amassing at least 98 tackles in each campaign. He recorded 108 tackles with two sacks and two interceptions in 2007 and posted 98 tackles with four picks in 2008 before a 102-tackle performance in 2009. He started just 12 games last season, mustering only 43 tackles before the injury limited him to one start this season.

Hayes has posted 428 tackles in eight seasons with the Cardinals. He was released by Arizona on July 28.
