COLUMBUS, Ohio – Even his teammates and best friends are uncertain precisely what Cameron Johnston is saying a lot of the time.
They nod and smile politely. But, most importantly, they don't make fun of him.
The Ohio State punter, a 21-year-old Australian Rules Football veteran who knew little about the American version of the sport a year ago, is the reigning Big Ten player of the week on special teams.
Johnston starred with punt after punt that backed No. 23 Wisconsin deep in its territory.
He's adapted quickly from Geelong, Australia, to Columbus, Ohio. And he figures to be a critical factor again when the fourth-ranked Buckeyes play at No. 16 Northwestern on Saturday.
Now if he could just make waitresses understand what he is ordering.
