Lake Forest, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Bears signed quarterback Jordan Palmer and linebacker Larry Grant to the active roster on Monday.

Palmer will back up Josh McCown, who inherited the starting role following the injury to Jay Cutler. Cutler will be sidelined for at least four weeks after tearing a groin muscle in a 45-41 loss at Washington on Oct. 20.

The 29-year-old Palmer completed 12-of-18 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown during the preseason with Chicago. His work in the regular season is minimal, as he has thrown only 15 career passes in four relief appearances for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2008-10.

Grant, 28, has totaled 64 tackles and five sacks in 66 career games (11 starts) with St. Louis (2008-10) and San Francisco (2011-12).

The Bears also waived tight end Steve Maneri and signed cornerback C.J. Wilson to the practice squad after he cleared waivers. Wide receiver Terrence Toliver was also added to the practice squad, while wideout Ricardo Lockette had his practice squad contract terminated.
