Austin Peay's football program bolstered its team speed by adding Naval Academy transfer Jeremiah "J.J." Rutledge during the transfer signing period which began Wednesday.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound freshman is projected as a cornerback and kick return specialist for the Governors and has four seasons of eligibility remaining. He has been admitted for the spring semester.

A Clarksville native, he played wide receiver and defensive back at Northeast High School. He was a track and field standout as well.

"We are really glad to have J.J.," Austin Peay coach Rick Christophel said. "We recruited him out of high school. Not only is he a good corner, but he is a good return guy as well, which is going to help us tremendously."

Austin Peay finished 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference this season.
