Auriemma inks five-year extension with UConn

The University of Connecticut and women's head basketball coach Geno Auriemma have agreed to terms on a five-year contract that will run through the 2017-18 season.

Auriemma, who has spent all 27 of his head coaching years at UConn, owns a career record of 835-133 with an unprecedented seven NCAA national championships (1995, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010) and 13 Final Four appearances, including each of the last five seasons. The Huskies have also appeared in the Sweet 16 in 20 straight seasons, including this year's squad which plays in the Bridgeport Regional on Saturday, and have made the NCAA Tournament every year since 1989.

"I would like to thank President Susan Herbst, Director of Athletics Warde Manuel and the entire University of Connecticut community for their continuing commitment to me and my family," Auriemma said. "The last 28 years at Connecticut have been amazing and I am even more energized by what the future holds for our women's basketball program and our athletic department as a whole."

Over his illustrious coaching career, the Naismith Memorial Basketball and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame member has led Connecticut to 37 conference championships -- regular season and conference tournaments combined.

Auriemma's salary is set for a yearly base of $400,000, running from April 15 to April 14 of each calendar year and includes postseason incentives.
