San Francisco 49ers running back Reggie Bush will return to practice Wednesday on a limited basis.

It will mark the first practice for Bush since he sustained a calf strain in a season-opening victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

The 49ers have been bludgeoned by a combined 65 points in consecutive losses to Arizona and Pittsburgh, falling into a deep hole by halftime in each to take away their running game.

Bush, who has battled injuries through his career, will provide a much-needed pass-catching element out of the backfield. He has had at least 40 receptions in seven of his nine seasons, including a combined 94 catches in the previous two seasons with the Detroit Lions.

Coach Jim Tomsula also said that linebacker NaVorro Bowman will not practice on Wednesdays to ease the stress on his surgically repaired knee.
