Congressional Calendar June 29, 2010

Two high-profile nomination hearings top the agenda for Capitol Hill Tuesday.

The second day of Elena Kagan’s confirmation hearings to become a Supreme Court Associate Justice begins at 9:00 a.m. ET. It’ll be her first day fielding questions from members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. We’ll be bringing it all to you live.

Gen. David Petraeus has yet another job interview before the Senate Armed Services Committee at 9:30 a.m. ET, this time it’s for the opportunity to serve as the top general in Afghanistan. We expect that hearing to go smoothly, and Petraeus could be confirmed for his new post as early as Tuesday evening.

Senate leaders hold their weekly agenda-setting press conferences at the Ohio Clock in the afternoon. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., starts the show at approximately 2:00 p.m. ET, and Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev,, follows shortly thereafter.

The Fourth of July is right around the corner, and folks around the country will celebrate our nation’s founding in all the familiar ways: flags, grills, and fireworks! Unfortunately fireworks can be dangerous. The Consumer Product Safety Commission knows this, and wants to make sure Americans understand the risks associated with fireworks so that they can enjoy their favorite whiz-bang sparkly noisemakers responsibly. They’ll be holding an event near the Capitol Reflecting Pool to release new fireworks injury and death data and they'll demonstrate how to handle firecrackers responsibly.

We’ll be hitting these stories from all angles, so be sure to stay with Fox News for the latest.
