The departure came after a service that lasted over two hours, with tributes from Cheney's family as well as former President George Bush.

Former President Joe Biden and former Vice Presidents Kamala Harris and Mike Pence were also in attendance.
President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance did not receive invitations to the event, though Vance offered his condolences in a statement on Thursday.
Also in attendance were Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts.
Liz Cheney remembers father Dick Cheney at National Cathedral funeral
Former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wy., remembered her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, during his funeral in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.
Liz called her father a "lion of a man who lived and served this great republic," and recounted how he raised his daughters, Liz and Mary, to love America and "do what is right."
She also recounted how Cheney would take his two daughters on trips to Civil War memorial sites across the country, where he would read "every word" of each sign, much to the chagrin of his daughters.
Former President George W. Bush hails Dick Cheney's 'absolute loyalty'
Former President George W. Bush praised former Vice President Dick Cheney for his "absolute loyalty" during his funeral on Thursday.
Bush was among several figures to offer tributes to Cheney during his service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
Bush praised his former vice president for his "highly disciplined mind," and said everyone who interacted with him knew he was a "serious man."
"He was everything a president should expect in a second in command," Bush said.
JD Vance offers condolences to Cheney family after being snubbed from funeral invite
Vice President JD Vance offered his condolences to the family of former Vice President Dick Cheney on Thursday.
"My condolences go out to Dick Cheney and his family. Obviously, there are some political disagreements there, but, he was a guy who served his country. We certainly wish his family all the best in this moment of grieving," Vance told reporters.
Vance's comments came as the funeral service for Cheney was ongoing. Neither Vance nor President Donald Trump received an invited for Thursday's service.
Trump has yet to make a comment on not being invited to the funeral.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is being honored at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, and several prominent Americans are expected to speak at the event.
Tributes will come from former President George W. Bush, Cheney's longtime heart doctor, Jonathan Reiner, as well as former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Pete Williams.
Cheney's grandchildren are also scheduled to speak, followed by his daughter, Liz Cheney.
Former President Joe Biden and former Vice Presidents Kamala Harris and Mike Pence are also in attendance at the funeral, but they are not expected to make remarks.
Participating clergy include Reverend Sean Rowe, Presiding Bishop and Primate of The Episcopal Church; Reverend Randolph Marshall Hollerith, Dean of the Washington National Cathedral; Reverend Canon Jan Naylor Cope, Provost of the Washington National Cathedral; Reverend Canon Rosemarie Logan Duncan, Canon Precentor of the Washington National Cathedral, and Reverend Joshua D. Armstrong-Walters, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

They were joined by former Vice Presidents Kamala Harris and Mike Pence, making the absence of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance even more conspicuous.
The former leaders and their spouses sat prominently in the first row throughout the service.
Other prominent figures included Sen. Mitch McConnell, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, television host Rachel Maddow and former NIH Director Anthony Fauci.

Cheney's funeral is scheduled for mid-morning on Thursday at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. It is traditional for sitting U.S. presidents to attend funerals for past presidents and vice presidents, but Trump has had a uniquely poor relationship with Cheney's family in recent years.
News of the president's exclusion was first reported by Axios.
Cheney's daughter, former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., helped lead the House investigation into Trump's role in the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Both Liz and her father endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential campaign.
