A small Spanish town has in effect put a "gag order" on a new "50 Shades of Grey"-themed hotel.

The mayor of “quiet” Vilafranca, about 35 miles west of Barcelona, followed through with delaying the opening of Roissy Castle – replete with 20 S&M-themed rooms and a dungeon - after members of the town council had objected to the hotel because it is located too close to the church which honors the village’s patron saint.

The hotel, the brainchild of a local businessman who has chosen to remain anonymous, was built to capitalize on the popularity of the the best-selling books. The bondage-themed hotel is in a building that previously housed an inn called l’Om del Llosar and has been decked out with all the “latest equipment.”

“With the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' phenomenon in full swing, I saw a business opportunity that hadn’t been exploited yet in Spain,” he told a local newspaper.

Mayor Oscar Tena pulled out the red tape and filed a petition against the hotel, saying that the owner does not have the license required to run it.

"We are very angry with this person for causing this scandal without saying anything,” Tena said. “We don't want this in our village, because it is right next to our residential center and our chapel. It is a very beloved place because we celebrate a lot of things there."

Presumably not the same things that the owner of Roissy Castle envisioned being celebrated at his establishment.

It's unclear whether or not he will have to find another site for his bondage hotel, but it appears that for the time being he has his hands tied … just like the inn's guests might have wanted to be.
