All-American beauty Kate Upton has landed the top spot as the cover girl of Sports Illustrated's 2012 Swimsuit Edition wearing a teeny-tiny bikini while her blonde hair blows in the wind.

The model was previously featured in the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, when she was named Rookie of the Year.

The former flame of New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, 25, is an equestrian from Michigan. She was widely rumored to be a favorite for the prized cover spot.

The New York Post's gossip section, Page 6, first reported on Sanchez's frequent late-night visits to the young model's apartment and has been seen in her lobby carrying bags a few minutes after she arrives.  One source told the newspaper that the two were just friends. Both reps had denied comment.

The quarterback has been with "Sopranos" actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler and was linked to actress Hayden Panettiere. Also, who can forget his encounter with a 17-year-old girl.

Upton started modeling in Miami where she was discovered at a casting call at the age of 15.  She soon moved to New York City and the rest is history.

The cover was a closely-guarded secret that was leaked Monday just hours before the announcement was to air on the "Late Show with David Letterman."

The top 10 contenders for the cover will be lined up in a Miss America style beauty pageant on the CBS late-show Monday, a slightly less suspenseful exercise now that Upton's cover has been revealed.
