Gina Rodriguez’s great year just got a whole lot sweeter.
The actress of The CW’s freshman family dramedy “Jane the Virgin” nabbed her first Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a television comedy series, the Hollywood Foreign Press announced Thursday.
"@goldenglobes Thank you seems too small, will you marry isn't appropriate, I love you is true maybe too soon but you did have me at hello," Rodriguez tweeted after the nominations were announced.
It’s the 30-year-old actress’ first major award nomination. She will duke it out with “Girls” actress and creator Lena Dunham, “Nurse Jackie’s” Edie Falco, Julia Louis-Dreyfus for “Weep” and “Orange is the New Black’s” Taylor Schilling.
“Jane the Virgin” was also nominated for best TV comedy series along with “Girls,” “Orange is the New Black,” “Silicon Valley,” and “Transparent.”
Louis C.K also received a nomination for best actor in a television comedy series alongside Don Cheadle for “House of Lies,” Ricky Gervais for “Derek,” William H. Macy for “Shameless” and Jeffrey Tambor for “Transparent.”
In the film categories, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu’s “Birdman” flew away with a leading seven nominations. Boyhood" and "The Imitation Game" trailed with five nods apiece. Those two films led a best drama category that also included "Foxcatcher," ''Selma" and "The Theory of Everything."
In the best picture, comedy or musical, category, "Birdman" was joined by "St. Vincent," ''Grand Budapest Hotel," ''Into the Woods" and — in a surprise — the independent British film "Pride."
Inarritu's "Birdman, or (The Unexpected Virtue or Ignorance)," about a Hollywood star trying to mount a serious drama on Broadway, earned nods for its star, Michael Keaton, supporting players Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as for its direction, screenplay and score.
The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards will be presented Jan. 11 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. For the third time in a row, the Globes telecast will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
