Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, announced Friday morning at the Television Critics Association Fox has ordered a pilot for a new installment of the hit series "24," titled “24: Legacy.”

“The pilot was just ordered, so in terms of casting, we have had conversations with the producers,” Walden said. “The lead is Eric Carter. He is clearly a significant focus of the show; there is also a female co-lead who is a former head of CTU.”

“24: Legacy” will focus on a military hero’s return to the United States and the trouble he faces afterward as he asks CTU to help save his life and stop a potential terror attack on American soil.

“24” premiered in 2001 and was nominated for a total of 73 Emmy Awards, and star Kiefer Sutherland won seven Emmy nominations and one win as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

The pilot episode for “24: Legacy” is set to film this Winter.
