Flea played the national anthem at Kobe Bryant’s final game as a Los Angeles Laker, and many people wish he hadn’t.

The bass player for the Red Hot Chili Peppers plugged is axe in and did a Jimi Hendrix-y version of the Star Spangled Banner, complete with distortion and flashy fretwork.

Flea, a Lakers superfan for years, received loud applause at the stadium, but not so much on social media.

Others were not happy that Flea failed to remove his hat during the song.

Flea, for his part, thought he did a fine job, telling TMZ in a parking lot afterwards: "I rocked that s--t."

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are touring and headlining the Coachella festival this year, so there will be multiple opportunities for an encore.
