Eva Longoria Under Fire for Retweet

Actress and Obama campaign co-chair Eva Longoria under fire for retweet.

Eva Longoria is taking back an offensive retweet against GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

The “Desperate Housewives” actress, who is co-chair in the Obama campaign, retweeted one of her followers on Wednesday, who called Romney a “tw*t” referring to a derogative name for a female private part.

“I have no idea why any woman/minority can vote for Romney. You have to be stupid to vote for such a racist/misogynistic tw*t,” the tweet read.

Longoria, who is active on Twitter and uses the social media platform to openly express her political views and agenda, on Thursday said there was a malfunction on her Twitter page.

"Is anyone else's twitter bugging out? There are things in my timeline I didn't retweet today. Hmmm? Standby trying to fix!" Longoria tweeted.

She then appeared to take the heat for firing the controversial tweet to 4,462,095 followers the previous day.

"I use Twitter as a platform for all Americans and their opinions,” Longoria posted on her Twitter account. “Sorry if people were offended by retweet," she wrote. "Obviously not my words or my personal view. I respect all Americans #FreedomOfSpeech."

“Let's close this conversation with a focus on the real issues, not tweets,” she continued on a separate tweet. “For women, it's about equal pay, the economy and our health care choices.”

Last year Longoria also took to Twitter to blast Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on his statements made in Iowa, where he said "poor children" have “no habits of working… unless it’s illegal.”

“@newtgingrich you clearly know little about the Latina community, Latina entrepreneurs who start businesses at 6 times the national average,” the Desperate Housewives star posted on her Twitter account.

As Fox News Latino previously reported,while in Iowa Gingrich said "poor children" from poor areas should be employed as janitors because they “have nobody around them who works, so they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday. They have no habit of staying all day.”

Following her first tweet, Longoria tweeted a link to a New York Times opinion piece, where columnist Charles Blow criticizes Gingrich on his beliefs. She called the piece “a must read.”
