Mayor Bill de Blasio was absent from the Tribeca Film Festival’s annual star-studded kickoff, hosted by Vanity Fair, after fest founders Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal blasted Hizzoner for not funding the fest.
“I don’t have many opinions on de Blasio,” De Niro reportedly said, “We don’t get any support at this point. There’s nothing.”
Rosenthal added, “I have no opinion, too . . . that should tell you what my opinion is.”
De Blasio’s team fired back that it gives “promotional funding” of $300,000.
But Rosenthal told us at the gathering she hoped he would attend this year and noted, “The administration has always given us marketing dollars. What we said is that there have not been any direct financial dollars. It’s very difficult to put on anything in New York, never mind a festival where you have a lot of free events and public events, and our goal is really about economic development for lower Manhattan.”
De Blasio never did turn up to the party, but a source noted he never RSVP’d.
Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen was at the Manhattan Supreme Court bash with the city’s film commissioner Cynthia Lopez, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Graydon Carter, Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg, Ron Perelman, Harvey Keitel, Charlie Rose, Les Moonves, Jean Pigozzi, James Dolan and Tom Freston.
