The wife of the Orlando nightclub shooter said in her first interview since the massacre that her husband was a man of “no remorse” who became increasingly agitated and violent as their marriage progressed.

Noor Salman told the New York Times that Omar Mateen – who killed 49 people at a nightclub in Orlando in June – would hit her in public, demean her and threaten to kill her.

In one instance, Salman said the couple was out shopping for baby clothes when she was pregnant and Mateen flew into a fit of rage, punching her on the shoulder.

They drove to his parents’ house later, but before they went inside, Mateen reportedly told her to keep quiet.

“Wipe your eyes. This stays between us, or it’s going to get worse,” Salman said he told her.

Salman, who may face charges that could include lying to the FBI, insisted she had no idea Mateen was plotting to attack the nightclub.

“I was unaware of everything,” she told the New York Times. “I don’t condone what he has done. I am very sorry for what has happened. He has hurt a lot of people.”
