A 33-year-old male suspect has been arrested Sunday evening after allegedly shooting at Everglades National Park rangers.

According to a press release, two park rangers had responded to a domestic violence investigation at Mahogany Hammock involving the suspect earlier in the day.
When the rangers arrived, the suspect had left the scene in his vehicle and was believed to be headed south toward the town of Flamingo. At 5:52 p.m., rangers located the empty vehicle on the main park road, just south of Paurotis Pond.
Given the evidence found on scene, rangers suspected that the subject had fled into the woods and was armed.
Authorities said the suspect later began firing shots at park rangers at around 6:45 p.m. Sunday, approximately 20 miles from the Homestead entrance. The park's main road, SR 9336, was immediately closed for public safety and residents of Flamingo was advised to shelter in place.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Miami-Dade Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, responded to the scene and the suspect surrendered at around 9 p.m. No injuries were reported.
In an update on Monday, police said the Homestead entrance and SR 9336 have reopened.
