Northeast Ohio police officer charged with selling shotgun, assault rifles, pistols to felons

CLEVELAND – A police officer outside Cleveland who authorities say sold guns to felons has been indicted by a federal grand jury.

Northeast Ohio Media Group (http://bit.ly/1NIWdAI ) reports that 29-year-old Kevin Lumpkin was charged Wednesday with two counts of unlawful sale of firearms to a felon.

Authorities say the North Randall officer knew the men who bought the weapons had convictions and that it was illegal for them to own guns.

Lumpkin's attorney didn't return calls from the media group seeking comment.

A criminal complaint says Lumpkin sold one felon a shotgun, two assault rifles, a pistol and a bulletproof vest. It says he sold another felon a pistol.

Cleveland police say they found boxes for two of the weapons while investigating a 2013 domestic dispute.

Solon police say they recovered a pistol traced back to Lumpkin in April 2014.

Lumpkin is on leave from the police department.
