No. 6 Stanford was feeling pretty good after its win over Connecticut. It was a little tired after Thursday night's loss to No. 10 Texas.

Lili Thompson scored 28 points, but the Cardinal lost 87-81 to the Longhorns in overtime.

"I think everybody — even the fans — was a little bit drained tonight," Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer said. "Texas played very well and they were extremely motivated. They got the better of us tonight."

It was Stanford's first game since it beat the top-ranked Huskies 88-86 in overtime on Monday night, snapping UConn's 47-game winning streak. The Cardinal (2-1) had won 28 straight games at Maples Pavilion.

Nneka Enemkpali scored 18 points and Empress Davenport had 13 in the Longhorns' first win over a top-10 team in almost six years.

"I think this is the re-establishing of this program," Enemkpali said. "The feeling I had tonight is something I haven't experienced at all since being here."

Enemkpali's layup with 2:48 left in regulation lifted Texas to a 73-71 lead. But Bonnie Samuelson responded with a 3-pointer with 1:43 remaining, putting Stanford in front.

The Cardinal had a 75-73 lead when Davenport converted a bank shot in traffic with 1.3 seconds to play, sending the game to overtime.

"I just had to put my head down and go to the basket," Davenport said.

Ariel Atkins had a key 3-pointer in the extra period as Texas (2-0) outscored Stanford 12-6 in the extra period. Brady Sanders and Brooke McCarty each had a big jumper for the Longhorns in OT.

Amber Orrange scored 15 points for Stanford, and Kaylee Johnson had seven points and 13 rebounds.

"We don't like losing but this experience will be a really good learning tool for us," Orrange said.

Texas had four players score in double figures and enjoyed a 44-37 rebounding edge. Atkins finished with 16 points, and Kelsey Lang had 14 on 7-of-12 shooting.

The Longhorns led 43-37 at halftime.

"Stanford is a tough place to play," Texas coach Karen Aston said. "We are a much better shooting team than we were last year. We did a really good job making adjustments after our first game."
