Joe Jackson, father of the late legendary pop star Michael Jackson, was discharged from a Brazilian hospital where he was treated after he had a stroke last month while visiting the country.
The Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo said Tuesday that the 87-year-old Jackson was discharged Monday though would not provide any further details.
Paulo Andre Silva, a partner at Nexxing, the company that invited Jackson to Brazil, said the patriarch of musical family is resting at a Sao Paulo apartment and is expected to return to the United States on Saturday. His daughter Janet and son Jermaine were with him.
Jackson, who was in Brazil to celebrate his 87th birthday, had a stroke associated with cardiac arrhythmia and hospitalized on July 26. He reportedly suffered three heart attacks while at the hospital.
However, reports from Brazilian newspapers said the strokes were provoked after the elder Jackson took Viagra.
“It was too much for him and he suffered a stroke,” O Diario de Sao Paulo reported, according to the Daily Mail.
Jackson’s camp was quick to deny the reports.
“He sleeps early and doesn’t take medicine without prescription. Nothing of this story is true,” said his PR assistant Lisa Crazy, while his rep Charles Coupet said: “This did not happen. It’s normal that they talk about wherever he goes. He had a headache, took some medicine and it went away. But afterwards he wasn’t feeling well.”
