Tony Award-winner playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda really wants to perform for the president, so much so that he changed his travel plans to do so.
President Barack Obama is scheduled to see Miranda’s smash Broadway hit “Hamilton” for the second time on Nov. 2 as part of a special Democratic Party fundraiser night.
The last time the commander in chief attended the historical hip-hop musical, Miranda let understudy Javier Muñoz take the stage so he could sit next to Obama.
But not this time around.
According to the New York Daily News, Miranda was scheduled to be on the West Coast for Obama’s visit – which falls on a day the theater is dark – but hurriedly changed his plans to be in New York.
“Lin is indeed scheduled to do the show that night,” a spokesman for the show told the Daily News.
Miranda, who wrote and stars in “Hamilton” and won a Tony for “In the Heights” back in 2008, usually has two nights off when the theater goes dark.
The show has become a favorite to the first family. First Lady Michelle Obama has seen the show twice: first time in April while it was still off-Broadway at the Public Theater and then again last month.
“Hamilton” tells the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.
