Selena Gomez not only surprised her fans when she fired her mother and stepfather as her managers last week.

She also surprised both of them.

The superstar singer’s mother, Mandy Teefey, told TMZ that she received zero warning about getting the ax from her daughter until the story broke last Thursday.

Teefey said she and her 21-year-old daughter sat down with stepfather Brian Teefey on Thursday after TMZ’s story was posted to ask if Gomez was absolutely sure she wanted to take her career in a different direction. Her daughter’s answer was yes.

The superstar’s mother said she was having a hard time processing that she was no longer her daughter’s manager – a position she had held with her husband since Gomez’s big break at Disney.

She said she respects her daughter’s decision and the two will continue producing several projects together, including the upcoming movie, “The Sky is Everywhere.”

TMZ broke the story last week that the “Come and Get It” singer fired her parents as her managers because she believes she is old enough to have a more seasoned professional manager. According to sources, family friction was not the reason for split.
