UN peacekeepers finish repairs on key bridge linking northern Haiti to Dominican Republic

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — The United Nations says its peacekeepers in Haiti have repaired a main bridge linking the country to the Dominican Republic.

The 330-foot-long (100-meter-long) bridge is a key link between Haiti's northern region and the Dominican Republic. The span had been in poor condition for some time and its supporting pillars had lost stability.

The U.N. mission said Wednesday that the bridge repair is one of numerous projects the mission is pursuing to help Haiti recover following the Jan. 12 earthquake that devastated the area around the capital in Haiti's southeast.
