British authorities have arrested two people on terror charges as it continues to conduct counter-terror operations related to Syria at a brisk pace.

London's Metropolitan Police said in a statement Wednesday that a 25-year-old woman was arrested in Bedfordshire, north of London, on suspicion of planning a terror act. Police raided two properties as part of the investigation.

A second person, a 32-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of attending a place used for terrorist training. Two London addresses were being searched.

No details were offered in either case.

Authorities have expressed increasing alarm over Britons attracted to the Islamic State militant group, particularly young people recruited through the use of social media.

Last week, police said they had made 218 terrorism arrests so far this year.
