Mexico’s government said on Thursday a U.S. proposal to allow Mexican long-haul trucks to move cargo on U.S. roads was a positive first step in reaching a solution in an ongoing trade dispute between the two countries.
Mexico’s Deputy Transport Minister, Humberto Trevino, said his government would review the U.S. proposal and respond by Monday, Jan. 10, Reuters reports.
If an agreement is reached, Trevino said a series of retaliatory tariffs Mexico imposed on U.S. goods would be lifted.
“It could be within weeks,” he said.
