A judge in Aruba is deciding whether there's enough evidence to keep a U.S. businessman jailed in the presumed death of his travel companion.

Gary Giordano of Maryland has been jailed nearly a month, since the disappearance of Robyn Gardner. Police and prosecutors on the Dutch Caribbean island need a judge's consent to keep holding him while they continue their probe.

Wednesday's hearing at a prison is closed to the public and news media. Solicitor General Taco Stein says prosecutors believe they have enough evidence to get another 60 days of detention. If the judge rules otherwise, prosecutors are expected to appeal.

Giordano has told investigators that the 35-year-old Gardner disappeared while snorkeling on Aug. 2.
