Two people were injured after a United Airlines plane, with 33 passengers and three crew members on board, slid off the runway at the Ottawa International Airport Wednesday, The Ottawa Sun reported.
Both of the injured were crew members. The plane's 48-year-old pilot suffered a neck injury and the 31-year-old co-pilot suffered leg injuries. Both were conscious and alert when they were taken to the hospital, Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesman J.P. Trottier said.
The accident happened at 2:30 p.m. local time as the flight was coming in from Washington, D.C.,and attempted to land in heavy rain. The plane appeared to hydroplane after it landed and crashed into a grassy mound, which caused the nose gear to crumble, a person who witnessed the landing told The Sun.
Paramedics and fire crews were on the scene and passengers were being moved to the main terminal.
"Everybody else is fine, they just seemed to want to go home," Trottier said.
