THESSALONIKI, Greece-- A 42-year-old Turkish woman wanted in Germany on terrorism charges was arraigned in Greece on Saturday on charges of possessing false documents.
The woman, who is accused of being a member of far-left Turkish militant group Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, or DHKP-C, will face a court hearing Monday.
She will also appear before an appeals court prosecutor who will recommend her extradition to a panel of appeals court judges. Authorities have confirmed the existence of a German arrest warrant for the woman.
The woman, along with a 50-year-old Turkish man, was arrested Friday night in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki. Forged Bulgarian identification documents, drivers' licenses, computer hard-drives, and portable flash drives were seized in raids on two apartments.
The man, who came to Greece in 2003, also faces charges of possessing false documents as well as of harboring a criminal, police officials said. His application for political asylum was rejected and his appeal is still pending.
The suspects have not been named, in accordance with Greek privacy protection law.
The DHKP-C aims at replacing the Turkish state with a Marxist-Leninist regime under its control through an armed struggle. It has claimed responsibility for numerous deadly attacks and bombings in Turkey, and has a network of supporters in Europe to finance and procure arms for its operations, German prosecutors said Friday.
