JOHANNESBURG – JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Two major trade unions at South Africa's power monopoly have called off their threatened strike over a wage dispute with the company.
The unions say that the power company, Eskom, has offered a 9 percent wage increase and 1500 rand ($195) as a housing allowance.
The National Union of Mineworkers and National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa said in a joint statement Sunday, they believe their membership will also accept the offer.
