UNITED NATIONS – Russia's U.N. ambassador says Moscow plans to present new ideas on how to restart Syria peace talks, including a cease-fire, during a meeting of key countries in Munich on Feb. 11.
Vitaly Churkin told reporters Friday that Russia hopes others in the 17-nation group will "shoulder responsibility" in restarting talks between the government and opposition that quickly fell apart this week.
Tensions were high outside the Security Council as Britain and France blamed the Syrian government's current offensive on Aleppo, backed by Russian airstrikes, for the suspension of talks.
French Ambassador Francois Delattre said the opposition couldn't be expected to negotiate "with a gun to their heads."
British Ambassador Matthew Rycroft said Churkin "needs to look in the mirror and understand where the responsibility lies."
