BUCHAREST, Romania – Romania's anti-corruption chief prosecutor says the agency has prosecuted 1,250 high-level cases in the past year, including a former prime minister and five former ministers.
Laura Codruta Kovesi urged officials to show courage Thursday, presenting the annual report of the agency which has conducted a fierce ant-graft campaign in recent years, successfully prosecuting members of Romania's wealthy political class. She says courts have ordered 200 million euros ($220 million) should be returned to the state.

Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta is currently on trial for corruption-related charges connected to the work he did as a lawyer from 2007-2008.
