ISLAMABAD – Officials say Pakistani and Indian border guards have traded gunfire and mortar shells along their disputed border in the Himalayan region of Kashmir, killing two Pakistanis and an Indian villager.
Pakistan's military said six civilians also were wounded due to Tuesday's "unprovoked" firing by Indian troops in the Bajwat sector near Sialkot, a city in the eastern Punjab province. It said Pakistani troops responded to the Indian fire.
Indian Inspector-General Danish Rana blamed Pakistan for firing first, saying an Indian villager was killed when Pakistani troops shot at a dozen Indian border posts in the Jammu region.
Pakistan and India have fought two of their three wars over competing claims to Kashmir.
