SEOUL – Nuclear negotiators from North and South Korea may meet in Beijing next week for a second round of talks aimed at reviving stalled six-nation disarmament negotiations, Yonhap news agency reported Friday.
The two senior officials -- Wi Sung-Lac from South Korea and Ri Yong-Ho from the North -- held talks in Bali in July, and are reportedly set to meet again in Beijing as early as Wednesday next week.
"At this stage, high-level officials of South and North Korea are exploring the possibility of holding talks," a senior official in Seoul told Yonhap.
The Bali meeting was the first ever meeting between the two nations outside the six-party talks, which involve the two Koreas, the US, Russia, China and Japan. North Korea abandoned the six-party talks in April 2009.
The North's leader Kim Jong Il reportedly told Russian president Dmitry Medvedev during a visit to Russia in August that Pyongyang was ready to resume the dialogue, AFP reported.
