More than 40 racehorses have perished in a stable fire in Canada.

The fire began shortly after 11 p.m. Monday at the Classy Lane Stables Training Centre in Puslinch, Ontario. Firefighters from several communities outside Toronto fought the blaze.

Barb Miller owns the facility with her husband Jamie. She says at least 43 horses died.

Miller says firefighters were still on the scene and that it was too early to speculate on the cause of the blaze.

She says all of the horses are owned by trainers who race them at the Mohawk, Woodbine and Flamboro Downs racetracks in southern Ontario.
