Add jars of mayonnaise with knives jammed into them to the list of items that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) won't allow as carry-on items.

TSA screeners at New York's Kennedy Airport caught a man trying to smuggle a knife onto a flight by plunging it into a full tub of mayonnaise.

Best Pix of the Week

A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman says screeners stopped the man Tuesday as he arrived for a trip to Mexico City.

The hiding spot was poorly chosen. Jars of mayonnaise are also banned from carry-on luggage in the U.S.

The TSA considers mayo to be a liquid or gel. That means passengers can't bring it aboard unless the container holds less than 3.4 ounces.

TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says Port Authority Police confiscated both the knife and the mayonnaise. They still allowed the man to catch his plane.

Tuesday's incident was the second time in the last month in which authorities at JFK caught a passenger attempting to smuggle a knife on board a flight. In early March, New York Port Authority police arrested Gabrielle Olsen, 26, of Washington Heights, Manhattan for going through an airport scanner with a dagger in her bag.

The security breech shut down JetBlue’s screening area in Terminal 5 for nearly two hours.

Among the other items that the TSA doesn't permit passengers to carry aboard are meat cleavers, gel shoe inserts, liquid bleach, hand grenades, nunchakus, cattle prods, baseball bats and bows and arrows.
