KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Jamaica has ordered people to stay off the streets for two days in several slums in the capital while authorities continue a gang crackdown and hunt a reputed drug lord wanted in the U.S.

Police say the 48-hour curfew in place until Friday is necessary to keep patrols safe.

Assistant Commissioner Leon Rose said Wednesday that security forces are "looking for wanted men, weapons and ammunition."

A handful of short curfews have been imposed since a raid last month by police and soldiers hunting for Christopher "Dudus" Coke.

During four days of street battles, authorities say 73 civilians and three security officers were killed.

Coke remains at large.
