Pakistani intelligence officials say gunmen riding in a car with tinted windows shot to death a senior Pakistani Taliban commander in the country's northwest.

The officials say Shakirullah Shakir was riding on a motorcycle Monday near the town of Miran Shah in the North Waziristan tribal area when he was killed. Shakir was a senior commander and spokesman for the Fidayeen-e-Islam wing of the Pakistani Taliban, which handles the group's suicide bombers.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

No group has claimed responsibility for the shooting.
