PARIS – Greenpeace activists are targeting a rich French businessman in Paris who has shares in a company they accuse of causing deforestation in South East Asia and Africa.
The activists plastered a large banner across the side of powerful CEO Vincent Bollore's company headquarters that said: "Bollore hard in business, not kind with forests."
Bollore is a large shareholder in Socfin, a Belgian-controlled company that manages rubber and palm oil plantations across Africa and Asia.
In a statement, Groupe Bollore said it shouldn't be held responsible for the actions of a company in which it is a non-controlling shareholder. It said it has played a facilitating role in the conflict via regular contacts with Greenpeace over the last several months.
